Plans to raise bus fares and Splash Palace entry fees in Invercargill have been scrapped following community feedback.

Proposed hikes of 10% to 14% for bus fares and a 10% rise for Splash Palace entry were both taken off the table after the May 26 council meeting.

But other increases will proceed, including solid waste fees rising between 10% and 18%, parks and recreation charges increased by 10% to 15% and a 15% increase to on-street parking fees.

More than 150 submissions were received during the public consultation, which closed in April.

Submitters also raised concerns about maintaining access to Splash Palace as a key community facility.

Mayor Tom Campbell said in a statement while the council faced rising costs to deliver services, it needed to balance those pressures with community wellbeing.
