Otago coach Mike Hesson would like to see the Cumming XI bat with more purpose when it looks to even the score against the Redmond XI at King George Park in Oamaru today.
The Redmond XI cruised to an eight-wicket win during a 40-over, warm-up match at the same venue yesterday.
The game is part of the Volts' build-up for the Champions League which gets under way in India next month.
Left-hand opening batsman Hamish Rutherford took up were he left off last season and whacked 59, and Leighton Morgan compiled an unbeaten 42 as the Redmond XI ran down the Cumming XI's modest total of 147.
Left-arm spinner Nick Beard took two for 27 for the Cumming XI and earlier Sean Eathorne top-scored with 45.
For the Redmond XI, Ollie Newton and James Fuller took two wickets apiece.
Hesson was pleased with the Volts' hit-out but wanted to see a more decisive approach by some of his batsmen.
"It served its purpose nicely and the guys were able to get into some rhythm with the ball," Hesson said.
"But from a batting point of view the ball did a little bit in the first innings and guys weren't quite as decisive as they needed to be with the bat.
"So that is an area we can improve on [today].
"But I'm really pleased with the way the guys batted in the second innings."
The sides plan to play back-to-back twenty/20 matches today.
Cumming XI 147 (Sean Eathorne 45, Ollie Newton two for 24, James Fuller two for 31) lost to the Redmond XI 148 for two (Hamish Rutherford 59, Leighton Morgan 42 not out, Nick Beard two for 27).
Pakistan will play four one-day internationals and two twenty/20 matches against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates next month, an official of the Pakistan Cricket Board said yesterday.
It will be Pakistan's second one-day series at a neutral venue this year after earlier hosting Australia in the UAE, AP reports.
"Dubai will host two twenty/20 matches, while all the four ODIs against New Zealand will be staged at Abu Dhabi," PCB media manager Raza Rashid said.
Pakistan will then tour New Zealand to play three tests.
