Maybe the first week of October is not the greatest time to schedule a cricket series in New Zealand after all.

Who would have thought?

Game two of the Chappell-Hadlee series between New Zealand and Australia in Mount Maunganui was ruined by rain.

The game got under way briefly.

Travis Head got himself out, so that was fun.

Otago seamer Jacob Duffy claimed the wicket.

Australia was 16 for one when the rain returned.

And that was that.

Australia cruised to a six-wicket win in the opener on Wednesday, which means they will retain the Chappell-Hadlee trophy regardless of what happens in the final game of the series tonight.
