The Otago Volts have secured a Super Smash playoff spot with a convincing nine-wicket win against Central Districts at the University of Otago Oval today.

The Volts set the tone in the field with a reasonably disciplined bowling effort. They restricted the Stags to 139 for six.

It was a modest target and the Volts' chase got off to a flyer. Experienced opener Hamish Rutherford and veteran right-hander Neil Broom (34) put on 71 for the first wicket.

The Volts hit the cruise control knob after that and Rutherford saw the job through with an undefeated 81.
