Mikaela Hunt will be up for national recognition next month.

The Southern United captain has been nominated for domestic women's player of the year at the New Zealand Football awards.

Hunt will contest the award with Capital's Sarah Gregorious and Canterbury United's Annalie Longo.

After scoring twice in Dunedin Technical's Kate Sheppard Cup final victory, she proved a key part of Southern United's defence in the national league.

On the men's side, Eastern Suburbs trio Callum McCowatt, Andre de Jong and Tim Payne have been nominated.

Former Otago player Cameron Howieson is nominated for men's international player of the year, along with Tom Doyle and Sarpreet Singh.

Betsy Hassett, Meikayla Moore and Ria Percival have been nominated in the women's category.

Chris Wood, Abby Erceg and Sarpreet Singh are finalists for the overall player of the year award.

Awards are also up for grabs in team, futsal, referee, coach and young player categories.

The awards will be held in Auckland on July 27.
