All Whites Chris Wood's World Cup is in doubt after suffering an injury playing for Nottingham Forest on Friday.
The All Whites striker went down clutching his knee following a heavy tackle early in the game which resulted in a red card for Porto's Jan Bednarek.
Wood attempted to play on but was soon substituted.
He is just a week back in the club's top side following knee surgery in December.
BBC analyst Dion Dublin said Wood looked devastated as he hobbled off the field.
It will be of huge concern for the All Whites with their opening World Cup game against Iran just two months away.
On Thursday Wood admitted that the injury would be something that he would have to manage for the rest of his life.
"A knee injury is always horrible, you never know what could happen in the future or how you are going to come back from it," he said on the eve of his latest match.
"So mentally, that's one of the tough things to deal with. But I had confidence I was always going to come back. I got very close to returning pre-surgery and it just didn't happen. That's just unfortunate.
