City Highlanders A bounced back from only its second loss of the season with a 2-0 win against Taieri A yesterday.
The first 20 minutes were end to end as both teams battled to get the upper hand.
Lauren Keaney thought she had given Taieri the lead when she smashed a shot past the goalkeeper but it was disallowed as she had shot from just outside the circle.
City took the lead when a Phoebe Steele shot was saved and the rebound fell to Caitlin Blakely who slotted it past the keeper.
It did not take long for City to double its lead. It received a penalty corner and a neatly worked set play resulted in Sarah Thomas calmly beating the keeper to score.
City had all the possession in the second half, including three consecutive penalty corners from which it failed to score.
Alex Irwin almost scored for City when she beat her defender and fired a shot at goal but it was cleared off the line by Taieri defender Bridget Sheed.
City continued to dominate but could not add to its lead.
Taieri coach Susan Dunn had to play the game in defence. She said her team was missing a few players because of injuries and exam study.
