Momona B played with energy and skill to hold Momona A to a 2-all draw in the women's premier competition at the weekend.
The A side got on to high attack early but the Bs defended well and started to look promising with strong patterns playing to the right and finding their team-mates well.
Momona A turned it round and looked likely to score when suddenly the ball was in the opposite circle and Samantha Dalziel fired a goal in to give the B team the lead.
Spurred into action, Momona A attacked but did not look threatening, and Natalie Dooley played intelligently on defence to shut it down.
Eventually, the A team brought Larissa Wall up into attack, a high ball went in and an equalising goal was scored.
The pressure was on and, after Momona A failed to convert a penalty corner, the Bs raced down to score another runaway field goal, with Dalziel getting her second.
The Bs appeared to have the game in hand, but in the dying moments Momona A won a penalty corner.
All players came up and a deflection from Wall levelled the scores.
In other games, University White beat St Hildas 2-0 and Taieri beat City Highlanders White 2-0.
In men's hockey, University B beat City Highlanders 2-0 on Saturday night.
It was a game fraught with tension, as the team that won would progress to the semifinals in two weeks.
Both teams came out firing but neither could make any real inroads into the other's defence.
It took 15 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, and it was University playmaker Chris Ashton who got the ball rolling.
He picked up a loose ball at the top of the City circle, before driving deep towards the baseline and rocketing the ball past James Bishop into the goal.
This bought City to life and for the rest of the half it attacked and tried to level the scores.
In the second half, University's discipline slipped and both Andrew and Chris Ashton received warnings from the umpires.
City had a string of penalty corners throughout the second half, none of which it was able to convert.
With time up on the clock, University was awarded a penalty corner which was eventually converted by James Kennedy, who tidied up a loose ball and flicked it over Bishop's pads.
Kings beat University A 3-2 in the other game of the round.
Albany A had the bye.
