Oamaru reinswoman Charlotte Purvis has been transported by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital after a crash at today’s Waikouaiti trots.

Horses collided leading up to the start of race 3, which sent Purvis crashing to the track from her sulky seat behind the horse Benz Buy.

Purvis remained on the track for up to 15 minutes while she was being treated by ambulance staff.

It is understood Purvis has sustained injuries to the shoulder area, though the exact extend of her injuries are unknown.

Fellow driver Blair Orange was also tipped from his sulky behind Circuit Break, but was uninjured.

The incident that lead to Purvis’ crash was caused by a rival horse, Matai Jetstar, running inwards and restricting runners the room of horses inside him, Tidmarsh said.

Neither the mobile barrier nor the rain affected Waikouaiti was to blame for the crash, he said.

The Waikouaiti races have been delayed by more than half an hour as a result of the incident.
