Close relation of three-time New Zealand Cup winner Terror To Love has plenty to learn. But Courage to Live showed enough at Oamaru on Saturday to suggest his maiden win will not be his last.
The son of Jereme's Jet is out of Courage To Love, a half-sister to Terror To Love.
The Terry McDonald-owned colt was green in his first start at Gore on April 24, and finished ninth.
But while he looked around in the straight, he still produced a tough run sitting parked for the last lap to win for driver Ricky May, who was impressed.
"He went quite nice, really,'' May said.
"The one in front of me galloped out of the gate so I was pretty happy with the way he went and stuck to his guns. I tried to get the front, but couldn't get it, and sat parked, but he came straight back and relaxed.''
May said the reports from Paul Court's West Melton stable had been positive despite the forgettable start.
"The camp was pretty confident with him, all the same. With the way he'd been working, they thought he'd be a big chance.''
