"We were loaned the mare, Laura Marie, by Mrs Gresham, of Temuka and he [Prince Lee] is her first foal," Kevin Schmack, the Timaru part-owner of Prince Lee, said.
He races the 4yr-old son of D M Dillinger with Graham Stoddart and Ross McCutcheon, both of Ashburton.
Prince Lee is trained by David and Catherine Butt and he has been driven in his wins by their son, Bob.
Laura Marie was unraced. She is a half-sister by Badlands Hanover to Cee Tee R (1.52.4 in the US) and Jayees Albert (1.55.8).
Chris McLeod, the Oamaru owner-trainer, produced Armbro Demon for a first-up win in a maiden trot at Invercargill yesterday.
She is a 4yr-old mare by Armbro Invasion and the first foal of Hold Fast, who qualified but did not race. Hold Fast is a half-sister by Chiola Hanover to Rainbows Wish, winner of four races for McLeod.
Armbro Demon was among three winners for Oamaru junior reinsman Matthew Williamson. He was also successful with Rhythmic Sun, having his first race for five months and his first from the Phil Williamson stable. Rhythmic Sun won seven races when trained by Alan Clark.
Mansel Thomas won last night in his first start from the Waimumu stable of Billy Heads. Mansel Thomas had his other win in April when trained by Paul Kerr at Kaiapoi.
Tracee Sherborne has relinquished her position as a training partner with Tom Kilkelly but she is keen to continue in the training field.
"We had some differences and I decided to drop out," Sherborne said.
"I want to stay with the horses and I will just have to see what is available. If there is nothing in Southland I will look at Australia or America."
Sherborne (22) has worked for Kilkelly for nine years at his Tisbury stable.
She initially held a training licence on her own in the 2008-09 season. She joined Kilkelly in partnership last season and they won 18 races. They have had four wins this season.
"The highlight training with Tom would be four winners in a day," she said.
Kilkelly, who is president of the Invercargill Harness Racing Club, won with Ashira Bromac at Ascot Park yesterday.
Speedy Gonzalez was 8.2sec inside the required time when he qualified as a trotter at Motukarara yesterday.
The Britewell-Sheez Speedy 4yr-old, trained and driven by Phillip Iggo, won his test by seven lengths.
Yankee Dream, now trained by Cran Dalgety, won her heat.
