Racing: McDonald returns to ride Blood Brotha

James McDonald, now based in Sydney, is back in New Zealand to ride Blood Brotha in the New Zealand Cup and Pure Elegance in the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas on November 17.

McDonald has not ridden Blood Brotha since he won the New Zealand Cup last year.

Blood Brotha has not had a win in between times.

Opie Bosson has been engaged for Undisclosed in the $230,000 Coupland's Mile on the second day of the New Zealand Cup meeting. Undisclosed won the open 1400m at Ellerslie on Saturday in the hands of Matthew Cameron. The Peter and Jacob McKay-trained Undisclosed, part-owned in Christchurch by Trevor Luke, won the 2010 Canterbury Stakes at Riccarton.

Kostalot, a maiden winner at Washdyke yesterday, was a $16,000 purchase as a 2yr-old at the 2011 South Island sale.

The Any Suggestion colt is trained by Neil Coulbeck for the No 8 syndicate, of Geraldine.

• Kostalot is a half-brother to Knife Edge, a winner in New Zealand and Macau.

• The Kurow Jockey Club has increased stakes for its annual race meeting on January 30. The stake for the Kurow Cup is up $4000 to $16,000.
