How well the Nigel Auret-trained mare copes with a rain-affected Riccarton track could decide her chances in the 1400m feature.
Yesterday, the track was rated a heavy10 and the going tomorrow is bound to be testing.
That is the No1 concern for the Whanganui trainer as La Fille En Jeu shoots for three consecutive feature-race wins at Riccarton.
Despite the mare having a strong record on soft tracks, Auret had concerns about how La Fille En Jeu was going to handle the slow track in the group 2 South Island Breeders' Stakes, two starts ago.
But those worries were set aside when La Fille En Jeu put in a gutsy front-running win.
Whether the 6yr-old can handle a heavy track, if it is presented tomorrow, is a murkier question.
Auret is just hoping he gets a positive answer when his mare hits the finishing line.
"It is the one big question mark for her.
"We were worried on Breeders' Stakes day, but I think its even worse than that now," he said.
What Auret has a little more control over is the the mare's condition.
And, thanks to a little help, she could not be happier.
"It has become to like a second home to her down there - Les and Richard Didhman are looking after her for me."
She is the early $4.50 favourite.
A similar doubt about the going is hanging over the two horses behind her in the market.
Both Son Of Maher ($6) and Kolonel Kev (8.50) are talented sprinters, but highly questionable on testing tracks.
The same can not be said for the evergreen northerner, Nashville.
The Adrian and Harry Bull-trained 9yr-old is proven on heavy tracks in the best South Island company.
Though Nashville does not have the benefit of recent racing he has a strong record when racing fresh and comes into the race following two good trial performances at Foxton.
Otaki raider Euphoria is another northerner who boasts good wet-track form.
