Leading Wingatui mares Princess Brook and The Precious One are aiming for winning returns at Riccarton today.

Princess Brook will have her first start since undergoing running repairs on a fetlock, in the 1400m Coupland’s Mile Prelude.

"She is very well. She will improve with the run, but I am happy with where she is at and she can run a decent race fresh," trainer Terry Kennedy said.

The race is headed by former New Zealand Derby winner Rangipo.

The horse steps up to 1400m after a solid fresh-up run over 1200m for trainer Tony Pike, who has a host of strong winning chances in today’s feature races.

Son Of Maher is another good chance in the race.

He drops down in class from racing in last month’s Livamol Classic for trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman.

The Precious One has her first start for the season in race 9, a rating 72 event over 1200m.

The horse was to have started at last week’s Gore meeting but was withdrawn by trainer Claire Anderton because of its heavy track.

Rider Lisa Allpress has been booked to replace The Precious One’s regular jockey, Chris Johnson, who is riding at Hastings today.

Allpress will have to plot a path for the talented 4yr-old from barrier 14.Trainer Jamie Richards’ pair of Remington and Devil May Care look the toughest opposition for The Precious One.

Richards prepares the early favourite for today’s 1400m Guineas Trial, Our Flying Ace.

The 3yr-old clashes with talented fillies Wekaforce and Emily Margaret.Promising Wingatui galloper William James is also a leading chance in the event.

Today’s open 2000m event at Riccarton is headed by last-start winners Blue Lagoon and Zentessa.

Wingatui galloper The Man is also a strong chance in the race.
