Old Boys, Kurow, Valley and Maheno will meet in the first round of the Citizens Shield playoffs on July 10.
According to the unofficial points after the final round, Old Boys (40), Kurow 38, Valley (36) and Maheno (21) will head for the playoffs in a fortnight’s time.
In Saturday’s round, Kurow defeated Athletic Marist 49-13, Excelsior caused a minor upset beating Maheno 24-14 and at Weston Park, Old Boys beat Valley 29-17.
Excelsior led 12-0 at halftime.
Tayne Russell scored a hat-trick of tries and centre Hamish Slater also touched down.Josh Phipps converted two of the tries.
Maheno replied with first five-eighth Shane Dunnett and Robbie Smith scoring tries and Smith adding two conversions.
Kurow bolted away to a 49-13 victory over Athletic Marist.
The home side led 23-13 at halftime and opened the floodgates in the second half , adding 26 points. During the 80 minutes there were tries to Hayden Todd (2), Alipate Tuipolutu, Michael Paterson (2), and Sam Sausi while Hayden Parker added three penalties and five conversions.
Athletic Marist’s points came from two penalties from five-eighth Abel Magalogo and a converted try to Latanoa Tuivailala.
Old Boys edged Valley 29-17.
Valley prop Meli Kolinisau scored an early try but Old Boys dominated the second quarter to lead 12-5 at halftime, after tries to Ralph Darling and Lenny Varu.
Old Boys fullback Logan Wilson showed his potential with 14 points.
Midfielder Jake Matthews added a try and Ben Paton kicked a conversion and scored a try for Valley’s 17 points.
In the first round of playoffs Old Boys will play Kurow and Valley will play Maheno.
