Kayla Hodge  — with a little help from friends — names a Citizens Shield team of the season.

15. Josh Phipps (Excelsior). A solid boot at the back of the Blues backline.

14. Mitch Scott (Kurow). The former Otago back was a standout in his new colours.

13. Matt Vocea (Valley). A big ball carrier and staunch defender.

12. Matt Faddes (Kurow). Classy and widely experienced to get the backline ticking.

11. Josefa Vurewa (Excelsior). Speed to burn out wide and finished off six tries.

10. Hateni Tafolo (Athletic Marist). Dangerous with the ball in hand and has a great feel for the game.

9. Tini Feke (Old Boys). No surprise the energetic halfback was once again North Otago’s top try-scorer.

8. Samu Babiau (Excelsior). A bruising ball-runner who showed some real maturity during the final.

7. Mat Duff (Excelsior). No-one more deserving to lift the Citizens Shield. Workhorse in every sense of the word.

6. Savenaca Rabaka (Athletic Marist). Explosive, energetic and everywhere in Athies’ pack.

5. Blake Welsh (Valley). A reliable target in Valley’s utterly dominant forward pack.

4. Epineri Logavatu (Athletic Marist). Never lacks the vigour and punch to get up for his side.

3. Jake Greenslade (Valley). Mobile, athletic, and can swing across the front row. Everything you want in a forward.

2. Hayden Tisdall (Maheno). Never skipped a beat no matter where he was thrown in the green machine’s pack.

1. Kelepi Funaki (Old Boys). Morphing into one of North Otago’s great scrummagers.

Reserves: Sam Sturgess (Valley), Cameron Rowland (Valley), Junior Fakatoufifita (Old Boys), Robbie Smith (Maheno), Hayden Todd (Kurow), Inoke Fisilau (Old Boys), Matia Qiolevu (Excelsior).
