Coach on a crutch now

It had to happen - now the Highlanders head coach Tony Brown has gone down with injury.

With more than 15 players hurt in a season not even a month old, the injury curse has spread to the coaching staff.

Brown injured his right knee in a social game of indoor football on Monday night.

He had his right knee bandaged at training yesterday morning and was walking with a crutch.

Brown had joked last weekend, after the latest batch of players went down with injury, that he might have to get out the boots and play on Saturday against the Hurricanes.

It has been a horror run for the Highlanders. Co-captains Ben Smith (concussion) and Ash Dixon (back) are both out of the game through injury.

Dixon is yet to play a game while Smith lasted under half an hour in the opening game of the season and has not been sighted since.

All Blacks Liam Squire (knee), Waisake Naholo (hamstring) and Lima Sopoaga (hamstring) have also picked up injuries and are out for the foreseeable future.
