Highlanders hooker Liam Coltman is sticking around for the next couple of seasons.

The bearded one announced on social media yesterday, as is the way of the world these days, he had signed with the Highlanders for another two years, keeping him at the franchise until the end of the 2019 season.

He has also put pen to paper with Otago and will wear the blue and gold when he can over the next three seasons in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Coltman (27) has played 61 games for the Highlanders and 64 games for Otago. He made his debut for Otago in 2010 and first played for the Highlanders in 2012.

Coltman, who was brought up in Taranaki, has played only for the Highlanders and Otago, after coming south to study physical education at the University of Otago.

Rugby got in the way of study, and he has become an integral part of both the Highlanders and Otago set-up.

He was the Otago captain for the past couple of seasons.

The burly rake has been a key man for the Highlanders this season after hookers Ash Dixon (back) and Greg Pleasants-Tate (knee) were injured. He played all of last week's game against the Brumbies last Saturday night in Canberra.

Coltman was part of the All Black set-up last year, and made his debut in the black jersey when he came on in the second half in the match against Italy in Rome.

His signing is another key one for the Highlanders but the franchise will be looking to get other key players, such as centre Malakai Fekitoa and winger Waisake Naholo, to sign on before contracts expire at the end of the season.
