Highlanders flanker James Lentjes says the side is not getting ahead of itself this weekend.

The team is set to take on the Chiefs, the bottom New Zealand side on the table.

The Chiefs are coming off a good old belting from the Hurricanes and are missing many of their stars due to long-term injuries.

The Highlanders, on the other hand, are coming off the biggest win in their history - a 52-0 demolition of the Sunwolves in Tokyo last Friday night.

Lentjes (28) said it was a good week away with the side in Japan and the win was the icing on the cake.

''It was nice to get over there and experience the Japanese culture and the food and get a result as well,'' he said.

''They played a pretty decent game the week before against the Hurricanes so they didn't slip under the radar for us. We were keen to get out there and play well as they have put a lot of teams under the pump.

'' They probably did not have their best game. We took our opportunities when they came along.''

Lentjes said the side increased its concentration throughout the match.

''We just made better decisions and probably stuck at it for the majority of 80 minutes while in previous games we were really hit and miss - on for a few minutes and then off for a while. The best thing was that we didn't leak any points.

''Our backs lit it up when they had the chance and it was good to see when you came out of a scrum or a ruck and see them scoring in the corner.''

But the Chiefs will be way tougher as the derbies were effectively a ''coin toss'', Lentjes said

''We can take confidence from our last game, that is for sure. There are certainly things that we need to learn from ... which we won't get away with this week.

''You just look at the things that they did not finish.

''Against the Kiwi sides they will finish and you will pay more for your mistakes.''

Lentjes said a win lifted the spirits among the whole team and it was a good feeling going in on a Monday after a victory over the weekend.

Lentjes said the Highlanders scrum was going well but he could not take much credit for it.

''It is probably an area of growth for us. I don't do a lot in scrums. I might push the odd occasion when it is going forward.''
