Otago Highlander Paul Miller looks to offload while in the tackle of Crusaders lock George Naoupu match at Alpine Energy Stadium in Timaru in 2005.
The Highlanders will now clash with the Crusaders three times this year, after a practice match was scheduled for Timaru in July.

The match will be played on July 6, at Alpine Energy Stadium,  as a way of giving players some match fitness before the Super rugby competition resumes.

The two sides met in Oamaru last year — when the Highlanders convincingly beat the Crusaders — and the fixture was seen as a success and a good way for coaches to get players back into the swing of things.

The teams will have a break from the Super rugby competition in late June and early July as the test series between the British and Irish Lions and the All Blacks is played.

The Highlanders may have more than half a dozen players involved in the test series and the Crusaders will probably have more.

But the majority of players will simply have their feet up for that period, as no other rugby — at Super rugby level — will be played.

The last competition game for the Highlanders in the Super rugby competition is in Christchurch on June 3 against the Crusaders.

Both sides will then play the Lions.  The Crusaders game is set for Christchurch on June 10 and the Highlanders will take them on three days later.

The teams will just have one game left of the regular Super rugby season when they come back after the test series.

The Highlanders will play the Reds in Dunedin on July 14 and the Crusaders will take on the Hurricanes in Wellington the next day.
