Ben Smith plays his 50th game for the Highlanders tomorrow morning. He looks back over his past 49 games with Steve Hepburn.

Q Who did you make your Highlanders debut against?
A The Brumbies at Carisbrook in 2009. I don't remember a whole lot about it, although I did make a bad read on defence which led to a try. I think you remember your mistakes more. But you learn from them.

Q Best game for the Highlanders?
A There are a few, but probably the win against the Crusaders in Nelson last year was pretty special. So was the win over the Bulls in Africa last year. They had won a whole lot at home in a row so it was great to beat them.

Q Worst game for the Highlanders?
A One of those early ones, I suppose. There were quite a few in those first couple of years that we just lost. Those close losses were hard to take.

Q Hardest opponent?
A We've got a few of them in our team, so luckily I don't have to play them. When you play against the Crusaders and you come up against the likes of McCaw and Carter then that is where you want to be. You always want to play against the best players in the world.

Q Hardest team?
A The Crusaders. They have shown over the years that they set the standards.

Q The best place you have visited?
A I quite like Cape Town. Nice and hot. And Durban is not bad, either.

Q The best thing about being a professional rugby player?
A Touring around and getting to have a look at all these great places. Then on game day being able to play in front of a big crowd. The new Forsyth Barr Stadium is a fantastic place to play.

Q The worst thing about being a professional rugby player?
A Just getting injured and having to stand on the sideline and watch.

Q Hardest thing at training?
A The down and ups are not much fun. Jamie [coach Joseph] seems to love them. But they do help you in the game.

Q What is it going to take for the Highlanders to make the playoffs this year?
A We just need to put ourselves in the position to win every game. Make sure we prepare well so we can play as well as we can in every game.
