Alex Turnbull has been appointed to the Otago Rugby Football Union board.

Turnbull is based in Wanaka and is the founder and managing director of the Rhythm and Alps Music Festival, held annually in the Cardrona Valley.

He replaces Hamish Walker, who resigned after standing for the National Party in the last election.

Union chairman Keith Cooper noted the extensive experience in marketing, promotion and commercial revenue generation that Turnbull will bring to the union.

''The appointments panel had a difficult decision based on the talent of the applicants received. However, Alex's skills in the entertainment space are skills that the ORFU can only benefit from,'' Cooper said.

Turnbull is a keen rugby fan, having played age group representative rugby in his younger years.
