Talented Canterbury Metro centre Jamayne Isaako-Stowers scored a hat trick of tries and was the dominant player in the South Island under-16 final in Dunedin on Saturday.
Canterbury Metro scored seven tries when it beat Tasman Bays 50-7 at Forsyth Barr Stadium to retain its dominance at the tournament.
The annual tournament was first held in 1986 and Canterbury or Canterbury Metro has won it 14 times, including nine times in the last 13 years.
Canterbury controlled all phases in the game and was well led by tighthead prop Tana Luke.
The support play of loose forwards Charles Gamble and Sean Foster was a feature. Elia Elia made a big impact when he came on at No 8 in the second spell.
First five-eighth Ashley Smith had a sound game and scored 25 points - two tries, six conversions and a penalty goal.
Midfield back Jacob Whitaker toiled hard and scored all of Tasman Bays' points.
Otago Metro beat Southland 17-10 in the play-off for third and fourth. Otago Country beat South Canterbury 18-16.
Meanwhile, the Otago Development side won the South Island invitational tournament on Saturday, with a hard-fought 33-29 win over Canterbury Metro at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
The Otago side led 16-8 at halftime.
Otago's forward pack paved the way in the first half with aggressive play which took it out of Canterbury. Outside backs Jesse Toto and Nick Jones scored some excellent team tries from the good work of the forwards.
Canterbury came back strongly in the second half which caused a few heart flutters in the Otago camp, but Otago managed to hold on for a great win.
