McGlashan beaten by Southland Boys'

John McGlashan College's remarkable season has come to and end in the Highlanders regional First XV final today.

The Otago champions were beaten 31-17 by Southland Boys' High School in Invercargill, having trailed 14-5 at the break.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the Dunedin school, having come off tough wins against Otago Boys' High School and Waitaki Boys' High School in recent weeks. However it will not take away from what has been a remarkable season.

John McGlashan were unbeaten throughout the Otago Secondary Schools' First XV competition, conceding just 77 points along the way. Their relentless defence became a trademark and it was that which saw them topple Waitaki Boys' 23-0 in the final. It was a similar story last week later, when they beat Otago Boys' 17-15 for the first time, showing that they were indeed the real deal.

On attack they racked up a huge amount of points throughout the season, using their ball runners to create space and proving organised to play the phase game effectively.
