Special voting pop-up sessions at University of Otago

Starting this week, the Dunedin City Council will hold special voting pop-up sessions, where voters can collect special voting papers and have their say in the local elections.

People need to cast a special vote if:

• They have not yet enrolled to vote.

• They have not received a voting pack in the mail by Tuesday, 23 September.

• Their voting pack is lost or spoilt and they need a replacement.

• They are on the unpublished electoral roll.

• Their address or personal details on the electoral roll are out of date.

Several pop-up sessions have already been held and the remaining sessions are on Wednesday, October 1, and Thursday, October 2, from 10am-2pm, at the University of Otago Link.

Special voting papers are also available from the Electoral Office in the Octagon’s Civic Centre during business hours until Friday, October 10.

There will be open evenings tonight and on Wednesday, October 1, from 5pm-7pm.

“People can cast their vote when they collect their papers, or take the documents home to complete later," Dunedin City Council deputy electoral officer Robyn Dillon said, in a statement.

“Voting closes at noon on Saturday, October 11, but voters should pop their completed voting papers in the post by October 7 at the latest.

"Alternatively, they can drop them into one of the orange voting bins ... around the city."

A full list of voting locations and closing times can be found at www.dunedin.govt.nz/vote

Ms Dillon is encouraging all eligible Dunedin voters to make sure they are enrolled to vote.

“It’s not too late — you can still enrol right up until Friday, October 10, the day before the polls close.

"It’s quick and easy to do online at vote.nz, so avoid post-election regret and go vote."
