Deli (17), who enjoys various sports and academic interests at the school, has recently played piano for community groups in the area.
Although determined to pursue a career related to physical education, she has found volunteer work an invaluable experience, and "will definitely do volunteer work long-term."
"It has been a real eye-opener," Deli said.
This year, her appreciation of old worlds and new has been broadened by travel - a recent family trip to Thailand - and by school classics studies.
"I really want to travel more after university, and it's made me appreciate what we have [in New Zealand]. There's so much out there to see."
Deli is a school netball and cricket representative, and has played rugby, but "is a little small for the tackles."
She also coaches a junior (Gold) netball team, which has improved her management and communication skills.
"They have really improved. I've learned a lot about managing different types of kids."
She also credits experience as a school leader, both as head girl and as a board of trustees representative, for adding to her understanding of "a whole lot which goes on behind the scenes" and bringing a new-found confidence to her abilities as a public speaker.
Achievements: House captain; 40-Hour Famine organiser; Peer support leader; canteen helper; Duke of Edinburgh (bronze); school prefect (2007); school board of trustee representative (2008).
Role model: "Adine Wilson (nee Harper). She is a good athlete and a good leader."
Hopes for the future: "To study sports physiotherapy or physical education at the University of Otago."
