Applications by Otago businesses to attend the latest information seminar for collaborative projects have closed and are 40% oversubscribed, prompting the possibility of another round in the New Year.
For the year to March, the DCC's economic development unit will have overseen distribution of a total $611,000 of contestable funding for collaborative "Industry Project Funding", including $225,500 which is the last round being contested for 2009.
There are at present 27 applications for the 25 free places for the unit's free November 26 collaborative seminar, with a further nine registrations of interest, business development adviser Des Adamson said.
"We're hoping to be able to run another seminar in February," Mr Adamson said of the oversubscription.
For companies taking part in the seminars, the first session looks at identifying the potential for collaborative arrangements with other companies.
The second considers the legal implications, administration issues and how the companies concerned could protect their own interests.
This process is overseen by Justin Williams from Deloitte and Gallaway Cook Allan commercial lawyer David Smillie.
Mr Adamson said companies with collaborative projects have until late February to make applications to the economic development unit for a share of the $225,500.
The DCC is yet to decide the level of funding for the year ahead.
