New Zealand wins transtasman sheep dog trials

The dogs have run, the sheep have been herded and New Zealand has emerged the victor in the annual transtasman sheep dog trials held in Auckland.

The NZ Sheep Dog Trial Association Trans Tasman Test Series has been running for 30 years, and for fans it remains a calendar highlight.

The Kiwi team for this year's event, held at Auckland's Domain, was made up of four men from Canterbury, Marlborough, Hawke's Bay and Ruapehu.

During the two-day event, the eight competitors completed a test course by instructing their dog by whistling to guide three sheep in a course that includes a series of gates, a bridge and into a pen.
