Winning the Glammies with their Perendale lamb entry was a "huge thrill'' for the Gardyne family from the Ida Valley.
Robert and Rosemary, and Grant and Teri Gardyne were named the winners of this year's Beef + Lamb New Zealand's Golden Lamb Awards at the grand final, held in conjunction with the recent Upper Clutha A&P Show.
Their entry came out top of the 20 finalists, to be named grand champion, winning the title and $2500 in prize money.
The competition received a total of 173 entries, which were subject to scientific testing at Carne Technologies.
The top 20 finalists were then tasted by a panel of chefs.
It was a privilege to have an entry in front of such a line-up of top chefs, Robert Gardyne said.
It was the first time a Perendale, or hill country lamb, had won the competition, he said.
The October-born lambs were all born at an altitude of more than 600m.
The Perendale progeny trial, now in its seventh year, had proven "quite conclusively'' that the pH and tenderness and yield was as good as any breed, Mr Gardyne said.
