Perkinz Ltd's DrenchMaster, a very simple drenching system which can be used both mobile and stationary, won the best overseas invention at the Sheepvention show in Victoria last month.
Perkinz Ltd director Wayne Perkins said the company also won third place in the show's sheep handling section for its CrutchMaster product, an upright belly crutching system.
The SheepFlow bristles which prevent sheep from moving backwards in the drenching race won the Best Overseas invention at the 2007 show.
The latest awards follow a special merit award given to the Perkinz SheepFlow in the innovations competition of the New Zealand National Fieldays at Mystery Creek earlier this year.
The Perkinz DrenchMaster was recognised at the Australian awards for innovation but Mr Perkins said it was the system's simplicity that everyone was talking about.
"Farmers like that it works without a lot of fuss and moving parts, and also appreciate that it costs significantly less that the V-belt conveyor systems some farms use.
"Not only did we get recognition for the clever design but it also got everyone talking and we've taken lots of orders, so it was a great week for us," he said.
The machine has an operating speed of 700 to 1000 sheep an hour and can be used to drench and vaccinate sheep, and check the mouths and udders of ewes.
With no noise and nothing to scare the sheep, they run well.
Mr Perkins, who spent 15 years as a shearer thought there must be an easier way to shear sheep "so I formed a company to deliver an upright shearing platform".
That device is not too far away from the market.
Along the way, several other products were developed and they have been well received, Mr Perkins said.
As well as the DrenchMaster, CrutchMaster and SheepFlow, Mr Perkins also markets a three-dimensional decoy of the rear end of a sheep, used to attract sheep down a race.
"Sheep always follow each other and it is easy to get them moving if they can see another sheep in front of them."
He said the company's philosophy was to look outside the square and create simple solutions.
