Accounting student Jason Downe (21) started Campus Phone Repairs in his North Rd flat after a flatmate returned home from a night on the town with a damaged cellphone.
Mr Downe offered to take a look and from there, customers kept coming.
''I always liked tinkering with things,'' Mr Downe said.
''I have always had quite an entrepreneurial mind [and] I'm always thinking about different businesses.''
He learnt most of what he knows about repairing phones by studying online.
After a bit of advertising and a lot of word of mouth, Mr Downe was fixing everything from broken screens to battery issues and water damage. He was so busy he had to move the business out of his flat.
An office in George St and an eftpos machine saw him making a good profit just three years later.
''It did get to a point after [I was] making a bit of money and I came up here [to the office] and was like, 'Wow'.''
Despite ''networking'' with some major local and national businesses, the young entrepreneur has made the decision to sell the business, despite its popularity.
He said his grades had suffered recently and he really wanted to concentrate on finishing his degree and having a career in accounting.
''I did have a passion for it but I created it for me to learn off,'' he said.
