Just over two years ago, there were two Isotrace NZ staff in a laboratory at the University of Otago.

Now there are 22 employees in new 400sqm laboratory facilities at Oritain Global’s central Dunedin premises, where the completion of the project was celebrated yesterday with a "roof shout" for tradespeople involved, after virtually two years of development.

It was also for University of Otago students, academics and past customers and employees of Isotrace who were crucial in the formation of its skills as an analytical service, technical manager Robert Van Hale said.

Fully owned by Oritain Global, a global leader in using forensic and data science to provide data-driven information about the true origin of goods and commodities, Isotrace is the forensic laboratory arm of the company.

The most exciting part of the development was the laboratory’s "meteoric increase" in size and scale.

Its previous laboratory at the university was about 70sqm or so.

Increasing demand for Oritain’s services was likely and Isotrace needed to be prepared for that influx, Mr Van Hale said.
