An American-owned organically farmed property - with almost 2km of coastal subdivision potential - is on the market for the first time in 11 years.

The American owners have farmed the 157ha organically and it has been stocked with a mixture of deer, sheep, cattle and more recently Hereford beef.

It is about 2km south of Taieri Mouth, or 20km south of Brighton.

Bayleys Dunedin salesman Brian Erickson said the property was the first farm south of Dunedin incorporating more than 1km of waterfront and it included its own surf break.

The property was already divided into seven titles and its closeness to Dunedin meant developers had an opportunity to subdivide it into lifestyle blocks, he said.

"There is already a market for small to medium-sized coastal blocks with close ocean views, especially those with access to the waterfront," he said.

The property, which does not have a rateable value available because some further titles are being retained, has a tender deadline of September 14.

The "moderately sloping" farm is divided into 20 paddocks with electric and wire fencing with developed farm access roads.

Stock water is pumped from ponds to tanks and gravity-fed into troughs.

The property has deposits of schist, including the 1.6ha Akatore Quarry, suitable to make more tracks or roads.

Buildings include a 246sq m five-bedroom, decked homestead, equipment shed, haybarn and large cattleyards.
