Kerbside collection will be altered from next week, as the Dunedin City Council makes changes as it joins the country in lockdown.
The council stated on its website recycling and glass would be collected until the end of Friday as normal.
Changes to parking in the city would be made from tomorrow, as all of its public facilities closed.
Although there is no change to general rubbish collected in council bags, from March 30, general rubbish can be placed in yellow bins in addition to in bags.
‘‘This is an interim, short-term measure only.
‘‘You will, however, only be able to put your bin on the kerbside every fortnight, the same day as if it was recycling.
‘‘You can still put your council black rubbish bag on the kerbside every week.’’
After Friday, the collection of mixed recycling and glass recycling will stop until further notice, due to the sorting plant closure.
Any recyclable materials put out after Friday would not be recycled, as they would be treated as rubbish.
‘‘If possible, please store your clean recycling materials for when normal collection resumes.’’
People were encouraged to put their rubbish out on the normal day, it warned the service could be delayed by a day or two.
Council rubbish bags will still be available in supermarkets, unless supplies run out.
‘‘If you are having difficulty in obtaining bags use your yellow-lidded recycling bin for general rubbish until further notice.’’
All transfer stations and recycling drop-off areas will be closed until further notice from 5pm, Wednesday, March 25.
The rural transfer stations at Middlemarch and Waikouaiti are closed until further notice.
Rural recycling hubs at Lee Stream, Middlemarch, Momona, Pukehiki and Hoopers Inlet are also closed until further notice.
From tomorrow, parking will be free until further notice, to help essential service workers park in the city.
‘‘There will be no maximum time limits on these parks, but people must still park safely and observe restricted parking around mobility parks, bus stops and loading zones.’’
