The Otago Regional Council announced the resignation of a high-level manager yesterday afternoon.

ORC strategy, policy and science general manager Gwyneth Elsum will finish with the council next month before departing for Australia.

In a statement, Ms Elsum said the pull of family, friends and opportunities across the Tasman — and the current challenges of closed borders — factored into her decision.

The council said Ms Elsum’s departure was not expected to delay the delivery of its new Land and Water Regional Plan for Otago, due to be notified by December 2023.

Gwyneth wont be missed by her team. That says all the public need to know.

ORC thinks ratepayers will fall for “the three card trick “? The loss of the General Manager responsible for the delivery of the regional plan will have an impact on its being completed on time. Their expectations that there will be no delay demonstrates their incompetent naivety. Hopefully by December ratepayers will have a new Council and Executive?

At last some good news coming out of ORC. Trouble is there is no one with any competency to find a suitable replacement. History has proved that!

Ms Elsum has a lot to blame for her decision. Why not just go gracefully without leaving a smell.
