The Storylines Festival returns to Dunedin City Library on Saturday, with a day of storytellers, illustrators, activities and competitions.

Among those at the festival will be award-winning Central Otago writer Kyle Mewburn (above right), illustrators Robyn Belton and Raymond McGrath, children's author Adele Broadbent, novelist Mandy Hager, and Tessa Duder Award-winner Rachel Stedman (above).

Activities during the day include designing bookmarks and making bug masks or a Melu the Mule, book talks and signings, storytelling, a zine workshop, and brainstorming a story.

The festival runs from 11am to 4pm on Saturday at Dunedin City Library.

Unrestrained

The frames are off at None Gallery in Dunedin this week, as artist James Bellaney creates a show in response to the exhibition space.

''It's a painting exhibition using no conventional frames but looks at the space as a frame. Including floor and walls, the space will be transformed through what could be classed as vandalism, chance and decision,'' Bellaney says.

''I will create an installation that ambiguously looks at landscapes in nature.''

The process will be recorded throughout.

The paint to be used is all recycled and everything in the show and the equipment will be what is easily found and at hand.

''Basically, I'm pouring on the floor and walls creating something great to look at and get lost in.''

The exhibition ''Pour'' opens at 5.30pm tomorrow and runs until August 16. Fresher Blue Oyster Dowling St will add another gallery to its tally later in the month when the Blue Oyster Art Project Space takes up residence.

The gallery will reopen on August 30 at 16 Dowling St, in a move the Blue Oyster Arts Trust anticipates will increase the visibility and accessibility of its activities, ''as well as place the Blue Oyster in the vicinity of a number of Dunedin's established contemporary dealer galleries and artists' studios''.

Renovation of the new premises is under way, supported by the Otago Community Trust and Place Makers Dunedin. It will be Blue Oyster's fourth move, following its two spaces in High St and the Moray Pl space.
