Cookbooks: Simple and delicious

Fans of Australian Donna Hay will be interested in her latest book, Simple Dinners (Fourth Estate).

Her usual stylish photography and short recipes are here, this time organised by ingredient - eggs, bread, pasta, noodles and rice, couscous, beans and lentils, chicken, beef, lamb, pork, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruit, and chocolate.

The idea, she says, is to start with a pantry or fridge staple and with a few extras grabbed on the way home, turn it into a quick week-night meal. Whether that works for you or not depends on the way you like to cook, but as usual it's a pretty book to look through.

• The Australian magazine Delicious celebrates its 10th anniversary with Delicious: Simply the best (ACP) by Valli Little.

Contemporary recipes with new foodie ingredients such as truffle honey, will inspire those who like entertaining.

There are ideas for different types of parties, from picnics to pop-up restaurants, from intimate dinners à deux to winter comfort food and summery Christmas fare. For the indulgent, there's a section on their most wicked desserts, for which Delicious is noted.
