What smell do you find irresistible?

The infused aromas of malt, hops and barley from the Newlands Brewery in Cape Town. That smell always stays with me.

What is your least favourite thing about humanity?

I have no time for bullies.

What is one strong childhood memory?

My family have always holidayed at Lake Hawea. Growing up, for us summer holidays involved endless laps of Lake Hawea behind the boat on, initially, a toboggan, a ski biscuit and then skis.

What is your message?

Sometimes in life things don't always work out the way you planned or hoped for. People make mistakes. The trick is to learn from it and not make the same mistake again. Oh, and never give up.

If you were going to an island and could only take three things, what would they be and why?

My family (Jodes and our three kids), definitely a hat and loud music device with Spotify on it. We would have a family beach island disco.
