Eden Carson is a spin bowler for the White Ferns and Otago.

Why do you do what you do?

I enjoyed playing it a lot growing up ... and I guess just trying to make my parents proud as well with getting selected for the White Ferns and things like that.

What is your earliest memory of playing?

In the backyard playing with my brothers. I do remember I did not like to field because I got bored but then I missed playing.

Who influenced you growing up?

Obviously Suzie [Bates] but also my dad. He pushed us into sports and we were involved in a lot of different sports.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

When we were at the World Cup, I went up for an lbw which clearly wasn’t an lbw because it went off the bat and went to a fielder and was a catch. It was really embarrassing. I apologised to the umpires.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

I like to go on a late night drive for a McFlurry sometimes.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and why?

David Attenborough. I admire him so much and I’d love to pick his brain because he has been all over the world and I love animals as well.

Property aside, what’s the most extravagant thing you’ve bought?

Probably not extravagant but when I look back at it I think ‘why did I spend so much on that?’ It was a $185 T-shirt, which was so stupid when I could buy five for that.

What music do you train to and why?

I listen to a bit of everything to be honest. But I like a bit of country and some D&B [drum and base]. But it also depends on who we are playing. I get a little bit more nervous when I’m playing for the White Ferns, so I listen to music to pump me up.

What do you mumble under your breath when someone has dropped a catch off your bowling?

I don’t think you can put that in the newspaper.
