Father accused of feeding baby drug

A New South Wales man is in custody after allegedly contaminating his four-month-old baby daughter's dummy with the drug ice.

The baby was admitted to Albury Base Hospital in late October with an unknown illness and pathology tests found amphetamine and methylamphetamine, also known as P, in her system.

NSW Health alerted police and a 24-year-old man from North Albury was arrested yesterday after trying to flee on foot.

He was charged with using poison to endanger life or inflict grievous harm.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad believe the man recklessly administered ice to the child by contaminating her dummy.

He was refused bail and was due to face Albury Local Court today.
