The University of Otago has approved a new scholarship, which recognises the 20 years of formalised support for students with disabilities at the institution.
The scholarship called the University of Otago alumni disability support scholarship was given final approval at a Otago University council meeting yesterday.
The $5000 scholarship was expected to be awarded to two students a year on the basis of financial need arising from disability.
It would be open to first-year domestic students and the selection process would take into account academic ability and financial need.
The creation of the scholarship was recommended by a meeting of the university's senate last month.
The senate also approved two new honours degrees, one in dental surgery and the other in physiotherapy.
