Top line-up for 'Orientadium'

Shapeshifter has been announced as the second top Kiwi music act to headline with New Zealand rockers Shihad at the Otago University Students Association's Orientation event at the Forsyth Barr Stadium, next month.

OUSA has dubbed its 2012 incarnation of the traditional student welcome "Orientadium" in recognition of the event being held at the multipurpose indoor venue.

Event organisers are promoting Orientadium as "the biggest O-Week the country has ever seen" and have secured a line-up of New Zealand's top musical and comedy acts to back their claim.

OUSA events manager Kitty Brown said different stands within the stadium would host various events.

Concerts by Shihad, Shapeshifter, hip-hop artist David Dallas, and support acts Cairo Knife Fight, Home Brew, and the Sunshine Sound System will take place at a plaza in the Otago Daily Times east stand.

Comedians Dai Henwood, Rose Matafeo, and 2010 Billy T winner Rhys Mathewson will hold court among a reconfigured seating plan at the west stand, along with a hypnotist's show.

OUSA president Logan Edgar said the University of Otago was known for having the best mix of top-notch study and fun, and this year's orientation had been "sorted out" to put on "the ultimate student stadium experience".

Tickets for Orientadium MMXII go on sale from January 16.
