Uni’s health subjects ranked 97th in world

The University of Otago’s clinical, preclinical and health subjects have been ranked among the best in the world.

Health subjects at the university were ranked 97th  in the world in the 2016-17 Times Higher Education World Rankings subject lists, which were released yesterday. The University of Auckland was ranked 74th in the same category.

University of Otago pro-vice-chancellor of health sciences Prof Peter Crampton said the ranking showed the quality of the division.

"Otago’s placement in the top 100 universities in the world for clinical, preclinical and health reflects the university’s considerable research and teaching strengths relating to the health professions.

"We are pleased that the international quality of our professional programmes and related research has been recognised in these rankings."

Factors including the teaching, research and international reputation of the medical, dental and other health subjects of an institution were used to form the ranking.

The UK’s University of Oxford was ranked first for clinical health.
