Police were called to Mitre 10 Mega in Andersons Bay Rd about 4.10pm yesterday, where one person was arrested for shoplifting, a police spokeswoman said.
"A car has subsequently left the carpark, leaving the arrested person behind, and been involved in a crash", she said.
A witness at the scene said the occupants of the car had been spoken to by police and, when officers left, the vehicle exited the Mitre 10 carpark "at speed", almost colliding with another car.
It pulled on to the shoulder of Midland St, and then, while attempting a U-turn, was struck by a vehicle.
There was no suggestion anyone involved in the crash sustained serious injuries, the spokeswoman said.
