The 50-year-old woman had wandered into the North Dunedin property yesterday evening through their unlocked front door, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman said.
She headed to the kitchen and rummaged through the fridge before finding some leftover pasta and proceeding to re-heat the bowl in the flat’s microwave.
The woman was completely unknown to any residents of the flat.
When police arrived the intruder began to dig into the re-heated pasta.
The residents of the flat told officers they did not want her charged, and would be happy for the woman to receive a warning and be driven back home.
Snr Sgt Notman said the incident was a good reminder for students, and everyone, to keep the entrances to their property locked even if they are currently at home.
