About $1000 was raised yesterday for a painted poster by Dame Robin White which the Otago District Health Board's art advisory committee hopes to buy for the Dunedin Hospital foyer.
Chief executive Brian Rousseau was one of those passing by in the foyer yesterday who responded to the call for a donation from committee member Barbara Brinsley.
Late yesterday afternoon, she said she had been pleased with the first day of the fundraising campaign, although she had noted that once people had paid for their parking, $5 was about all they had left to give.
The committee is attempting to sell 7500 squares of a copy of the art work for $5 each - $37,500.
If the committee raised more money than the work cost, that would be used to maintain the board's extensive art collection, Mrs Brinsley said.
