The Abbotsford on-ramp north will remain open.
NZ Transport Agency system manager Graeme Hall said three roundabouts would be milled and resealed, which required closures and alternative access routes.
Main South Rd from Brighton Rd to Abbotsford Rd would also be closed, affecting the Green Island, Sunnyvale and Abbotsford communities and their usual access on to and off the Southern Motorway.
Mr Hall said those residents would need to use either the Fairfield or Burnside on and off-ramps, and, with the closures being after dark, people would have to plan their journey.
The sealing project for the three roundabouts was jointly funded by the NZTA and the Dunedin City Council. Drivers were warned to expect temporary traffic management on Main South Rd and a slower than usual drive on the milled, temporarily gravel surfaces once the road reopened during the day.
During the day, work would continue on footpaths and drainage work.
Residents were asked not to park near the Abbotsford off- ramp and Main South Rd.

Get Police there during the day to make sure people don't exceed the 30km/h (or less?) speed limit through the road works. Everywhere in the city where it's 30km/h or so for roadworks etc you'll see drivers exceeding that limit by 10-20km/h every single hour/minute.
People always seem to think/assume that the temporary speed limit only applies when there are workers around. Which is wrong. It applies the entire time the speed limit signs are up.
It is 'temporary' because it isn't a permanent change to the speed limit, but it's still the maximum speed you're allowed to go when the signs are up.
Also, speed limits start AT the permanent and temporary signs. If slowing down, be at the posted speed BEFORE passing the sign. If speeding up, speed up AFTER the sign.
About time every single driver got re-tested on their drivers licence, huh?
