Arrest after Octagon assault

A man has been arrested in relation to an alleged serious assault in Dunedin's Octagon on Sunday.

A 19-year-old local man is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The victim remains in Dunedin Hospital and is progressing well, police said.

The alleged assault occurred around 8pm on Sunday during a dispute at a taxi stand involving five men and a woman.

During the altercation it appears a 38-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after being struck by a bottle, police said.
