A spokeswoman confirmed yesterday the university had concluded an academic integrity investigation after an incident "involving the early disclosure of examination content by a student".
The student, who had been granted permission to sit the company law examination early due to a challenging exam timetable, signed a confidentiality agreement as a condition of this arrangement.
This student was a member of a study group, established several weeks prior, to prepare for the examination.
The study group was using a group chat app, and the student made an unsolicited disclosure about the examination to peers via a group chat the night before the scheduled exam sitting.
"The university regards this conduct as a very serious breach of the academic integrity policy," the spokeswoman said.
"As a result of the investigation, the student who made the disclosure has received consequences in accordance with the university’s student academic misconduct procedures."
The university did not confirm whether the student, or anyone else involved, was sanctioned.
"For privacy reasons the university is unable to provide any more specific information.
"The student recognises they have made a serious error of judgement, is remorseful and has apologised for the disruption they have caused, both to their peers and the faculty.
"Additionally, students who received the disclosed information and failed to report the breach were also investigated."
The spokeswoman said while the information was unsolicited, their failure to act was found to be inconsistent with the university’s academic integrity policy, and misconduct findings had been made in relation to these students.
Faculty of law dean Bridgette Toy-Cronin said this had been a significant learning experience for all students involved.
"We are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical conduct.
"Now that the investigation has concluded and appropriate actions have been taken, I have asked the students to move forward with a shared commitment to integrity, respect and growth."
