The cast had a special guest to celebrate the opening night of Bayfield High School’s production of Nice Work If You Can Get It.

Dunedin Mayor Sophie Barker came dressed for the event and had been set to arrive in style in an 1920s open-topped car.

But, unfortunately, the rain last night led to that plan being abandoned, although the mayor still had on her glad rags.

A cast and crew numbering about 75 students have been rehearsing since the start of the year.

The musical, which features the songs of siblings George and Ira Gershwin, is set in the Prohibition era in the United States (1920-33) and follows a playboy who falls for a bootlegger.
